Chapter 1
The Day Everything Changed
3 min read
I still remember the day I met her.
It was an ordinary afternoon, the kind of day that seemed to have nothing special waiting for me. I was sitting alone, watching people pass by, lost in my own thoughts. I had no idea that one simple moment was about to change my entire life.
Then she walked into my world.
Her name was Ayla.
She wasn't trying to get anyone's attention. She wasn't pretending to be perfect. There was simply something about her that made it impossible for me to look away.
Our eyes met for a second.
She smiled.
And somehow, that small smile stayed in my mind for the rest of the day.
At first, we were strangers. Then we became friends. Slowly, our conversations became longer, our laughs became louder, and our silence became comfortable.
I started waiting for her messages.
I started looking for her whenever I entered a room.
Without realizing it, she became the first person I wanted to tell everything to.
One evening, we sat together beneath a quiet sky.
“Do you believe people can stay together forever?” she asked.
I looked at her and smiled.
“If I find the right person, I will never let her go.”
She looked away, hiding a smile.
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
At that moment, I believed those words with my whole heart.
I believed she would always be there.
I believed our story would have a happy ending.
I believed love was enough.
But I was wrong.
Weeks turned into months, and my feelings for her grew stronger. She became my reason to smile on difficult days. When I was sad, she knew how to make me laugh. When I felt alone, she reminded me that I wasn't.
I thought she was my forever.
I never imagined that one day she would become the reason I would fear the word forever.
Then things began to change.
Her messages became shorter.
Her calls became rare.
The girl who once wanted to know everything about my day suddenly seemed interested in nothing.
I noticed it, but I didn't want to believe it.
I asked her if something was wrong.
She smiled and said, “I'm just tired.”
So I believed her.
Because when you love someone, you sometimes believe their words even when your heart is telling you something different.
One night, I waited for her message until midnight.
Nothing.
I waited until one in the morning.
Still nothing.
For the first time, I felt afraid.
Not because she had done something terrible.
But because I realized I was slowly losing the person I had built my world around.
The next morning, my phone finally rang.
It was Ayla.
I answered immediately.
“Hello?”
There was silence on the other side.
“Ayla?”
“I need to talk to you,” she finally whispered.
My heart started beating faster.
“About what?”
Another silence.
Then she said the words I never thought I would hear.
“I think we need to stop.”
Everything around me became quiet.
I couldn't speak.
The promise we had made beneath the stars suddenly felt like a distant memory.
I wanted to ask her why.
I wanted to tell her that I could fix everything.
I wanted to remind her that she had promised she would never leave.
But all I could say was,
“Why?”
Her voice trembled.
“Because I don't feel the same anymore.”
Those words broke something inside me.
I closed my eyes and tried to breathe.
For the first time, I understood that sometimes people leave without giving you a reason that can heal your heart.
And sometimes the person you love the most becomes the person you have to learn to live without.
That day, Ayla walked away from me.
And I had no idea that losing her would be only the beginning of the biggest heartbreak of my life.
