The Hidden Letter

2 min read

The rain continued throughout the night.

Daniel and I stayed inside the old house, trying to understand who was behind everything.

I couldn't stop thinking about Ayla.

Was she scared?

Was she hurt?

Or was she somewhere nearby, waiting for someone to find her?

Daniel was sitting at the table, looking through the old photographs.

Suddenly, he stopped.

“What is it?” I asked.

He held up a photograph.

“This wasn't here before.”

I looked at it.

It showed Ayla when she was younger.

Standing beside her parents.

But there was something strange.

A man was standing in the background.

His face was partially hidden.

“Who is that?” I asked.

Daniel shook his head.

“I don't know.”

I took the photograph from him and looked closer.

Then I noticed something written on the back.

Don't trust him.

My heart started beating faster.

“Daniel, look.”

He read the words.

His expression changed.

“That handwriting…”

“What?”

“I've seen it before.”

“Where?”

He stood up and walked toward an old cabinet.

He opened the bottom drawer and pulled out a small box.

Inside were several letters.

He searched through them until he found one with the same handwriting.

I read it carefully.

If anything happens to us, protect Ayla. She must never know the whole truth.

I looked at Daniel.

“Who wrote this?”

“My father.”

Silence filled the room.

“Then why didn't he tell you the truth?”

Daniel shook his head.

“I don't know.”

Suddenly, I heard something outside.

A branch breaking.

We both turned toward the window.

Daniel grabbed a flashlight.

“Stay here.”

He went outside.

I waited.

One minute passed.

Then two.

“Daniel?”

No answer.

I walked toward the door.

Before I could open it, my phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

A message appeared.

You're looking in the wrong place.

Another message followed.

Ayla isn't where you think she is.

My hands started shaking.

Then came the final message.

She's looking for you.

I stared at the screen.

What did that mean?

Was Ayla safe?

Was she hiding from us?

Or was someone using her phone?

Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me.

I turned around.

Daniel was standing in the doorway.

His face was pale.

“Who messaged you?”

I showed him the screen.

He stared at it.

Then he whispered something that made my blood run cold.

“That number belonged to my father.”

I couldn't speak.

“But your father is dead,” I said.

Daniel nodded slowly.

“I know.”

For the first time, neither of us knew what to believe.

Someone was using a dead man's phone number.

Someone knew where we were.

And someone wanted us to find Ayla.

But the biggest question remained.

Why?

Then my phone vibrated again.

One final message appeared.

Come alone if you want her back.

I looked at Daniel.

He shook his head.

“Don't go.”

But I had already made my decision.

If Ayla was in danger, I couldn't stay hidden.

I grabbed my jacket.

“I'm going.”

Daniel stepped in front of the door.

“Then I'm coming with you.”

I looked at him.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because they asked me to come alone.”

Daniel stared at me.

“That is exactly why you shouldn't go.”

I knew he was right.

But somewhere inside me, I still believed Ayla was waiting for me.

And this time, I wasn't going to walk away.
