Letter 10: Magnar And The Sapling

1 min read

Poppy,

When I went down for breakfast this morning, life here seemed the same as usual. Though I feel hollow and empty. Like a ghost. At least there wasn't anxious panic about a wraith on the loose. Though there was some talk about strange rattling noises and doors being left open. I wonder what it will take for the Chief Librarian to look into it?

After a decent meal (the food here is delicious) I decided to take Magnar outside. He was so excited that he managed to move forward a tiny bit in the air. I made sure he got a tasty reward. I know he can prove that rude Librarian wrong.

Then I got started on my tasks. Just mopping, sweeping and dusting. I had no paperwork to file today. Though something unusual did happen when, as I swept beneath a cabinet in one of the reading rooms, Magnar hopped down from my shoulder and onto the display case.

His head turned from side to side as he investigated something. To be honest I was glad of the distraction. But then the display case door swung open, exposing a preserved mage brain to the air. I hurried to close it while Magnar hovered, happy with himself. I hope no lasting damage was done. I had no idea gorbles could pick locks.

When I asked one of the older Class 2 Librarians, he told me that gorbles are notorious lock-pickers, as their beaks are perfect for manipulating small mechanisms. I'll make sure to keep Magnar away from locks in future.

I also went down to sublevel 3 to check on the moss and see if it needs replacing yet. But it’s a healthy green, and growing, so I think it will last.

I don't think sleep will come tonight, but Magnar is snoozing already after demonstrating his new skill.

Your undeserving friend

Willow
