I worked an eighteen-hour shift and dropped dead on the ward floor, and I woke up half-drowned in a river in a fantasy kingdom, in the body of a disgraced noblewoman whose father got executed for arguing with destiny. Avanir is dying of a plague the augurs call a fated season, and the court treats death like a schedule the holy book already wrote. The crown prince is written to die of the grey breath this winter, and everyone, including him, has accepted it. The thing is, I transmigrated with a medical degree and twelve years of trauma medicine in my head, and to me a fated death is just an untreated disease nobody bothered to treat. So I washed my hands, boiled the water, and rewrote the prophecy one patient at a time. The High Jyotin calls it heresy. The Raj Vaidya calls me a witch. I knew how to save them, and I was not going to stop just because a book said the prince was supposed to die.
