Synopsis

For eight years I was the most beautiful thing Gideon Roche owned, and the night his car went off the cliff with me inside it, I understood that owning had finally tipped into something worse. No one would have believed me. He owns the police, the papers, and on paper he owned me. So I did not leave him, because a wife can be found and brought home. Instead I drowned. I faked my death, walked into the cold sea as Noor Haddad, and walked out the other side under a new name with nothing but my grandmother's money and the paintings he kept in a vault and never once looked at. He only realised he loved me when I was gone. He spent years haunting an empty house, hunting a ghost. I spent them learning to be a person again, building something quiet and entirely my own, falling for a man who asked nothing about my past. This is not the story of how I went back. This is the story of how I came back as someone he could never afford.
