The Federation doesn't waste criminals. They recycle them. Cast out onto Neuro-5, a humid, Spawn-infested swamp world orbiting three full moons, with a standard-issue pistol and a neuro-toxin implant counting down in his forearm, Basham "Bash" Anderson has two options: hunt the monsters, or let the Federation's poison do it for him. A convicted short-order cook with barely two weeks of boot camp to his name, Bash didn't expect to survive the drop. He definitely didn't expect to be assigned to the mess hall of Fort Carmone, where veteran Slayers measure rank in Spawn kills, corporate pricing bleeds you faster than the aliens do, and the guy guarding the front gate won't let you in because the Colonel is asleep. Survival on Neuro-5 isn't about being a hero. It's about scrounging credits, keeping your head on a swivel, learning which end of a Ripper to hold, and figuring out how to feed forty Slayers when half your kitchen staff got eaten last week. But something is wrong at the edges of the canyon. Forts are going dark. The Spawn are organizing. And Bash is starting to realize that the Federation's system isn't designed to save anyone.
