Jim the groundskeeper

Synopsis

Jim has survived nearly thirty years of war, buried more friends than he cares to remember, and finally earned himself a quiet life as groundskeeper at Riordan’s Academy of Practical Magic. Then a student turns up dead. The professors call it an accident. The academy wants the matter forgotten, and everyone important appears more concerned with protecting Riordan’s reputation than finding out what happened. Jim knows a cover-up when he sees one. Armed with a shovel, a bad temper and absolutely no respect for powerful magisters, the old soldier begins digging into secrets that were supposed to stay buried. But Riordan’s problems run deeper than one dead student, and the people responsible are about to discover something the war already taught Jim: If good men do nothing, evil wins. Unfortunately for them, Jim has never been particularly good at doing nothing.
