Synopsis

They unmade me on a scaffold of salt for crimes I did not commit, while the man I loved watched and the sister I trusted held the pen. In my last second I did the one thing the Tally forbids: I moved my own death. I woke nineteen again, on the morning they came to collect me out of the Sink, with every debt in the city of Caul glowing where only I can see it, and a list of names. This time I know who poured the wine. This time I keep my brother breathing. This time the villains pay. The trouble with paying for a second life is that the bill is never sent to you. It is sent to the world, and the world always, always collects.
