Putting his phone away, Mike heard shouting from down the hall. Quickly making his way to the squad room. Mike noticed everyone was all hyped up once again.
“What is going on
“ Mike, we have just received a call from Peter Mackin. He came home early and found his wife had been brutalised in their bedroom. Same MO as the previous two victims.
“Let’s go, mike said
“CSI are already on scene Mike. Should I call Leila?,” asked Terry.
“No, she hasn’t been feeling too good today, she is in bed asleep,” Replied Mike
“I hope it isn’t serious,”
“Me Too,” Mike answered
“Where we going,” Mike asked with urgency
“22 OSBORNE ROAD, WEST END SIDE
Starting the engine, Mike put the car in gear and started towards the promenade, where he turned down Poulton Road past The New Inn down to the prom and turning left making our way to the westend of Morecambe, no time for site seeing through Mike. Got to get to this crime scene.
Pulling up towards the house. Lucy Mackin’s husband was standing outside, waiting for us to arrive. CSI had already arrived and asked the victims husband (peter Mackin ) to wait outside. Normal procedure. This is so they can protect the scene and the evidence.
Pulling up to the house, Mike stepped out of the car and walked the 100 yards to the police officer stood standing guard and a visibly traumatised Peter Mackin.
“Detective Lawson,” the young police officer said
“ This is Peter Mackin, the victim’s husband.
This comment caught Mr. Mackin off guard. Especially when he heard the word (VICTIM).
“ Mr. Mackin. I am detective Mike Lawson, I work for the Ultra homicide department, can you walk me through the events of this morning, from when you all woke up,” Mike asked.
“ Sure, We woke about 7.00am this morning. Lucy always gets up first to prepare breakfast, then she would wake the kids up about 7.15am. Gives chance for the kids to wake up slowly. By that point I was in the shower. Am a bus driver for stage coach, so I work with the public all day long.
By 7.40am we were all downstairs together eating breakfast. I remember that because my mum called me and I noticed the time on my mobile.
“That’s good Mr. Mackin,” Mike said gently, trying to encourage Peter to keep talking and remembering without pushing him to far.
“ Peter, call me peter, anyway, my mum called to ask me to help her with her car as it had a flat type and she didn’t know how to change a tyre. So by 8am I made my way to my mum’s , I called work and let them know that I may be a bit late and why,” Peter explained.
“What was lucy doing when you left? Asked Terry
“She was finishing breakfast and the kids were putting on their coats and shoes, ready to set off for school. Lucy has a habit of running behind and is always the last one to be ready,” Peter said smiling.
“What time did you get back here after being at your mum’s,” pressed Mike
“I’d say it would have been around 11.45am this morning
“Are you sure,” Mike asked with urgency
“Yes, I am 100% sure detective
All of a sudden PC Walsh’s words came to him , then thinking he needs to check Leila’s whereabouts around this time, before Walsh goes to Goodman.
“Oh god, its nearly time to pick the kids up from school,” Peter said panicking
“Which school are they at?”
“David is at Heysham High School, so just down there, and Missy and Paul are at Westend Primary School. I can’t bring them back here. I can’t let the see their mother like this. Do you know that me and Lucy have been together since high school? Love of my life, yes, we have had some ups and downs but we always managed to sort things out.
“Don’t worry, if there isn’t anyone you can go and stay with, we will sort you and the children out to stay somewhere,” Terry offered
“Thank you,
“Mike, you really need to look at the crime scene,” a voice said from the upstairs window
Walking through the front door up the stairs, you could smell the blood. Entering the master bedroom where Lucy’s Mackins body lay gagged and bond on the bed. Her eyes wide open with complete fear in them. Her body had been mutualised and butchered.
“Detective, come and look over here, but mind your step,” CSI Sally warned
“ Peter, one of our trained family officers is going to take you to get your children and then take you somewhere safe. I will have someone pack some of your belongings for you and the children,” explained detective Terry
“Peter, I am officer Sunker and I will be helping you and your family through this difficult time, Is there anything you need me to grab from inside, for you or the children
“Yes in the fridge is Paul’s medication and missy has inhalers, a pink and blue. We will need clothes from both missy’s and the boys rooms. Could you grab the Xbox console with both controllers. Just so we have something for them to distract their self’s from what has happened.
“ Of course, I wont be long, then we will set off,” explained officer sunker
Looking at the victims body, both mike and CSI Sally noticed that this crime scene is different to the other two. The same MO but rushed through. As there was still blood on the floor and walls.
“Do you think it was a split second choice detective,” asked csi Sally
“ It does look like the prep was in a rush, maybe they was caught off guard and didn’t have time to do what they normally do!.
“Looking at the position the victim is placed in is near to the same way the other victims were left. Am hoping the prep made a mistake and we can find something to be able to catch this sick bastard,” Mike raged
“Looking at the nipples, the cut wasn’t as clear as the other victims and the way she is tied up; the knots don’t match perfectly like the other two. The fact the front door was unlocked and the time of the day the victim was killed. Is very strange in itself. Hopefully someone was at home or walking down the road and noticed something or someone.
“We have officers going door to door as we speak; we really need to catch this guy before more bodies start piling up. I mean who in their right mind is capable of this kind of nastiness,” Ask CSI Sally
“ Well we saw what happened to the seven Victims at hestbank lane didn’t we,” Replied
“ Yes, about that, we really need to go back over the evidence again, as if the son/brother is copying the murders from 20 years ago. That is personal to you, Mike,” Sally said.
“ We will do once done here, “ Mike replied looking worried.
Sally turned towards the Victim and started takin more pictures for evidence.
“Did I ever tell you about the case I was on when I was 25 years old and it was my first ever homicide case? Call came through to say there had been multiple murders in an abandoned warehouse on penny street in Lancaster. When we arrived and went inside to the crime scene, all we saw was bodies hanging in every corner you could imagine. The victims had all been homeless and the perp had coerced the victims by the offer of food and a place to stay. When they got to the warehouse, the victim was hit on the back of the head and then had a noose wrapped around their necks. Then they were raised up into the air. Just high enough where the perp could still torture the victim. He would torture them then bring them down for five or ten minutes then he would raise them up again. He would do that for over a few hours. In all we found that the perp had tortured and murdered over 50 homeless victims aging from 15 to 55 years of age.
His name was Daniel Dense and he was 46 years old, just decided that he was going to take his liking for killing to the next level.
“How did he decide on his first victim,” asked CSI Sally
“When he was asked that question, his response was chilling
Daniel explained
“ I was just walking through town when this homeless guy asked for change, all of a sudden I remembered the abandoned warehouse that my parents have owned for over 40 years. I still had the key to access the property and there was no way anyone would hear their screams. So I offered his a hot meal, drinks, and a place to stay where he could take a hot shower. He didn’t need to be coered , he was so despart for food ad warmth that he jumped up before I finished my sentence. When we arrived we went inside, then I waited for him to go in front of me. Then I struck him on the back of the head. Where he just fell to the floor like a bag of potatoes. It was quick and easy. Then I decided that the killing happened way tp fast. As I wanted t spend time my victims. I wanted them feel the pain, I felt everyday. So I went and bought a lot of rope, tied about ten up on the beams of the warehouse, added enough that I could use the other side of the rope to raise them up. Then i had to choose my weapon. I’ve watched so many horror films and decided to use the film saw, but used a knife and was able to buy a lot of acid.
“Jesus, that must sit with you.
“They all sit with me, all the time, it took two years for us to catch him. As we were aware that homeless people were going missing at a rapid rate. But it was believed that they just moved onto different town, as homeless people do,” Mike explained.
“Sally, document everything and send any evidence to my officer; please place it under my name only, as something isn’t sitting right with me at all. One minute, we have brandon price as a suspect, with his DNA and MO all over the crime scenes but this one hasn’t any DNA. We need to go through all the evidence again, with a fresh pair of eyes,” Mike demanded.
“Where is Detective Leila? Will she be joining us?
“ No, she isn’t feeling to well at the moment, in fact she is in bed right now asleep,” Mike said feeling confused.
“Well let her know I was asking about her, wont you,” CSI Sally said.
All of sudden CSI Sally bent down, and was looking closely at something on the floor. Then picked something up from the bedroom carpet.
“What did you find there, Sally?” enquired Mike
“Looks like an earring, detective. See?” Sally said, showing Mike.
Something about the earring, made Mike feel uneasy but he couldn’t put a finger on what was making him feel this way.
