CHARPER 11 – THE 3RD VICTIM

After another heavy night with Dave and Frankie, I managed to get my arse out of bed on time and arrive at work before 8am today. Thank god as I couldn’t be bothered with another fucking lecture of superintendent Goodman.
My head is banging to the point it feels like my head is about to burst open. No more drinking with my brothers or am going to end up dead myself.
“Update, superintendent Goodman screamed,
“No links between both victims, Brandon Price has said he was at home in his caravan on the nights of both murders. We checked CCTV it shows him arriving home around 5pm and wasn’t seen leaving till gone 9am the day.
There is chance that he left through the woods and made his way to both murders
“What, on foot?
“There is a gate at the south side of the woods where it leads onto the slackhead lane by the caravan site. He could have had a car or van parked there.
“Have you checked the CCTV of where the road leads to?
“Just waiting for the footage to be sent over to us, Superintendent Goodman,”
“I want to know straight away, as soon as the footage arrives,”
“Yes, sir,”
“We need these murders solved ASAP,” Superintendent Goodman was shouting as he walked out of our office and back down the dimly lit corridor to his own office, which was twice the size of this one that we share with 12 other people.
There is that many exits to that site that it will be hard to pinpoint which he used, also only the back and front CCTV cameras work. Which would give Brandon some breathing space for now. Plus it will give me the chance to do what I need to do.
Tomorrow I will be spending some quality time watching Mrs Lucy Makings. I need to find a location where I won't be seen but I can't also see the family routine.
“Morning,” Terry said breaking me out of my own world
“Oh, morning,”
“You, ok?” asked Terry with a look of confusion and concern on his face.
“Yes, just hungover to be honest with you. My brothers are staying with us for a little visit and we may have drank too much.
I swear my head is going to burst, can’t believe we drank that much. No way am I drinking that shit again
“Don’t let the super catch you hungover, last guy he caught was dismissed straight away,” Terry whispered
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan on being here long. I just needed to check something then am going to work from home. I really need to be near a toilet right now, chuckling as I'm speaking.
But seriously, I need my fucking toilet.
“Good, because you look like shit,” Terry said, laughing.
“Dick,”
“I know, but you still love me,” he said as he walked away.
Getting into my car, I felt like death warmed up, but I had things to do and I needed sleep before the carnival tonight. Reversing out of the police carpark onto Thornton Road. Another car (Vauxhall Vectra Silver) decided to turn right onto the same road as I was reversing onto coming from the roundabout at the bottom of York bridge.
“Fucking idiot!”
The driver slammed on his brakes and held his hands up and did apologise. I haven’t got the energy to deal with that shit. I waved him on. Turning onto Poulton road I decided to go up the promenade from Gala Bingo roundabout then up marine road east.
Driving down the road the sky was clear blue with tints of grey clouds. The tide was coming in and elderly people filled the benches.
The hotels to my left have been here since I was a little girl.
The Lothersdale hotel was built in 1953 and has been owned by the bury family and has seen three generations running it.
Making my way up towards the west end of Morecambe, Once again I noticed the difference in the images that my eyes were seeing, compared to what my eyes saw when I was a young child growing up in this beautiful town.
Coming to where B and M is now to the right was Morecambe’s very own arena called The Dome, where I remember working behind the bar with Claire, Laura and oh yeah and Jasmine (How did I forget about her). Having fun and dancing to some of the biggest acts that Morecambe had ever seen. (The Kooks,
Always had fun working there, some of the best nights with some of the best girls a friend could ask for.
Looking to the left a massive, big space where Bubbles use to be. I can see the place right now, everyone laughing and joking. If I concentrate enough, I can smell the chiroform.
One of the reasons it got closed was because the council put too much in the pools, this caused the everyone to come out of the pools with bright red eyes that stung. Still good fun through. Sad to look around and see nothing but a concrete space. Going past the Platform Pub is where Morecambe’s original train station was. If you go into the Platform pub, you will be able to see some of the original décor. 24th March 1907 it was opened, and it closed February 1995. It was a beautiful station, with steam trains that would come and go all the time.
I do remember going on a train as a little girl all the way to Reading to see my Grandma, It Took 10 hours.
Anyway, focusing on what I was doing, I needed to pay attention to what I was doing instead of day dreaming.
10 minutes
Pulling off albert road ( which is faster ) making my way up to Osborne Road , I needed to sit out of view but where I could see what was going on.
Pulling up on the corner of their road. I was differently out of view from anyone and could see their front door with clear view.
It took about 30 minutes, then a car pulled in the Mackin’s driveway. It was a citizen C4 (not bad cars) the driver’s door opened and engine switched off.
Unbelievable, She is the one getting out of the car.
“DO IT NOW!””
Clutching my head, I wanted scream. What was that?
“DO IT NOW!”
“Stop,”
As the voice in my head went quiet, I watched her walk through her front door.
Still trying to steady myself, I knew, it had to be now. Now is the time Lucy Mackin dies.
As I opened my car door, I could feel my breathing getting heavier and more shallow. I knew that feeling. I’ve had it before. Twice before.
Through those times made me feel strange and unaware of what was to come.
This time is different. I no longer feel strange and unaware. This time I feel prepared and ready.
Am happy
Making sure no one was around, I made my way through the side gate, then around the back.
Where it lead onto a garden.
Green grass, that had just been mowed.
There was a children’s swing set and a trampoline.
Quietly making my way towards the back door.
I slowly checked to see if anyone was around and quietly pulled down the back door handle and slide the door open. Poking my head through the door, to see if anyone was there.
I noticed the kitchen was empty.
Stepping into the kitchen and closing the door ever so gently.
I was looking at the décor, noticing that it had recently been painted yellow. Which is bad enough but when I tilted my head. I saw that the lino was orange.
Ok so some people have strange taste. Going into the hallway the décor was dark and depressing, with grey wall paper and a lighter grey boarder. The carpet was black.
They had pictures of their children up on the walls. Looks like baby pictures and school year pictures. Some by their self’s and then others of the kids together. Cute.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, looking up to the top. Noticing that the stairs had a greenery coloured carpet that really needed to be changed and the wall paper needed to be updated.
Each step I took. 1,2,3,4 till I reached the top.
There was this weird but calming feeling that came over. I know I wouldn’t care if the husband came home right now either, I would just kill him as well.
Coming round I was at the top of the stairs. To my left was a window that led onto the garage, then to my right there was three of the four doors open. Wide open. One was to the bathroom, the next to a girl’s room. To my furthest right, a boys room. In the middle was mum and dad’s room.
Each step I took towards her bedroom, was in slow motion. Like something was holding me back while at the same time pushing me in. Five more steps then she will be gone. For good.
Three steps, her blood will spill, and her scream will be muffled.
One step, am here.
Placing the chloroform cloth onto her face, she was out in seconds. Just like the others.
After binding both her hands and legs. Putting tape over her mouth and waiting for her to wake up. Which took about 15 minutes. It’s now time to begin.
Seeing fear in her eyes, was pure pleasure. Stepping forward and moving my hand towards her. The knife glided into her chest. By 2cm at least. Pulling it back out, she screamed a muffled scream. She has a pair of lungs.
I was very aware that this was being done in the moment and needed to be completed a lot faster than I would normally do.
Cutting her hair and putting a dab of DNA onto her body. Slowly Cutting her nipples, the pain in her eyes and the tears running down her face just made it so much better than the other two. Seconds later I very quickly placing the knife between her legs. Instantly noticing the blood run dark red.
“DO IT NOW
Without even thinking, my arm swiftly went up and a cross, lucy’s throat. Now the clean up begins. I had no idea how long anyone was going to be. So I had to be fast. Grabbing my CSI products. I did a fast but very deep clean up. All evidence was with me or washed away.
Putting everything in a binbag, I made my way to the back door. Slowly wiping any handles or gates. Just incase. Reaching my car, I was aware of how exposed I was. But it did look like no-one was around. I don’t think I’ve been seen.
11.04am.
Starting the engine and driving towards the promenade again, a smile creeped up on my face. No fear. No worries. Just HAPPY.
Looking at my watch, noticing it only took me 15 minutes to get home. A through crept into my mind.
“Was I speeding
“No, I don’t think I was
“Leila, you ok, “shouted Dave
“Yeah, am so hungover that I couldn’t stay in work, I shouldn’t even be driving my car. Fuck I feel sick.
“What’s going on, “Asked Frankie
“She has a hangover
“Really,”
“Yes
Both Dave and Frankie, stood there for about two minutes laughing, that I couldn’t handle my beer anymore. It was quite amusing seeing us all together again.
Slugging my hungover arse into the house. My legs were getting heavy, all off a sudden I needed to sleep. Both of my big brothers saw this and helped me to bed.
Lancaster Police Station
MIKE
“Did the CCTV footage come over yet, Terry?,”
“No, Mike. Still waiting
“Can you please call the company and explain that we need that footage ASAP, and if we need to we will get a warrant for the footage. But it would be a lot easier for them if they hurry this up.
“On it Mike,” Terry said picking up the phone.
Detective Lawson, can I have a word please , “ PC Walsh asked
“ Is it important,” Mike enquired
“ Yes, I believe it is Sir,” PC Walsh replied
“ Okey come into my office and close the door,” Mike responded
“I just need to deal with something real quick, then I will be with you, Bud,” Mike said to Terry.
Walking into Mike’s office, PC Walsh walked in in front of him and Mike closed the door.
“ What is it,” Mike asked
“ Last night when our shift, ended and I walking towards the locker room and I come across your wife, searching my social media accounts and when I asked her about it she acted really off. As if she was trying to hide something, “ PC Walsh said
“Okay, and what reason did she give that made you think my wife was being OFF, as you said?” Mike asked, looking annoyed.
“Sir, she had a picture of my family on the screen enlarged. When I asked what she was doing she said that my profile came up on her people she may know on her Facebook account.
But she sounded off like she was caught red handed and was trying get her self out of the situation,” PC Walsh relied.
“ It sounds plausible,” Mike responded
“No, Sir, it doesn’t. Remember when I said that The Mummy Killer was someone who knew what they were doing and that the killings were too personal to be a random killer? I mean the Killer knew that the children wouldn’t be home on each occasion. I personally feel uncomfortable and I came to you first instead of going to the Superintendent Goodman. Out of respect for you,” PC Walsh explained.
“ Are you saying that you think my Wife is The Mummy Killer PC Walsh?,|” Mike asked getting more and more wound up as the conversation went on.
“ Yes, Sir I am asking you to please think about it, as something was off, as something isn’t right at all,” PC Walsh
“ You need to leave my office right now PC Walsh, I will check it out but I know my wife and I this isn’t her. Once I show you that it isn’t her, I suggest you forget this conversation ever happened. Do you understand me,” Mike demanded.
Just then Detective Terry knocked and opened the door and asked
“Where is Leila?
“ You can leave now Walsh,” Mike said directing her out of his office
As Terry came into Mike’s office he closed the door and Mike replied
“ Home, she came in and was hungover she said. Been drinking with her brothers. She said she was going to work from home,
“She did knock quite a lot back last night. Ok thanks Mate,
“No worries bud,’ Terry nodding
Mike calling Leila’s Mobile
“Hi, Mike
“Hi, where is Leila
“She is in bed, went all funny all sudden.
Frankie and I had to help her into bed. She is upstairs flat-out mate,” Explains Dave.
“I’ve just checked on Leila, totally flat out
“Who is that,” Mike asks felling frustrated.
“Sandra mate. She was just checking on Leila to see we needed to call a doctor.

“Ok, just let her sleep and keep a close eye on her. Call me straight away if she gets any worse and I will come home,’ Mike demanded
“No worries, will do,” Dave answered.
