“Fucking Hell”
“What” I asked
“I am to the point that I am not too sure now if Brandon Price is our killer” Mike said looking concerned
“What do you mean, what has changed your mind” I asked again wondering what he was getting at and making me a little nervous at the same time.
You see Mike is the best of the best and won’t give up till he has gone through every little piece of evidence that we have. He doesn’t like the thought of sending an innocent person away for something they haven’t done. This causes an issue for me.
When all this started, I did expect to be the lead investigator, not only could I frame Brandon Price, but I can also become a big shot at work. As I have always wanted to move to the Ultra-violent Crime Department.
If I am found out, not only will I go to a federal prison, but I will also lose my job and my family. Mum did always say I was just like her and that I just hadn’t realized it yet.
“Are you even listening to me? What has got into you lately?” Asked Mike
“Sorry, I was just thinking about the poor children, finding out their mummy isn’t coming home again,” I managed to say
“To be honest for this little girl, it isn’t such a bad thing, as she will now go to live with her paternal grandma and will be treated better that she has had in the 4 years she has been on this earth” Mike retorted
“What do you mean” I asked
“Well, if you look at the victims background and what type of mother and person she was. She has had countless arrests for selling her body and drug charges. Social services have confirmed that they have been involved before her daughter was even born. There have been accusations of emotional and physical abuse towards her daughter from the day the child took her first breath. To me, even though this is a crime that no one should suffer. The child will be better off in the long run.” Mike Explained
“But would he be so understanding if he knew it was me that ended this bitch’s life?
As we left the crime scene and made our way past the police station onto Central Drive, we turned right round the roundabout towards marine road east, looking to my left The Midland hotel that was built in 1933, architect Oliver Hill/Eric Gill and Artist Eric Ravillious who did all the interior. The hotel was the first to hold a National bathing beauty contest which was won by 18 year old Lyndia Reid.
“What are you thinking about,” Mike asked interrupting my thoughts
“What Morecambe use to be like when I was younger, like how The Midland Hotel would hold Beauty Swim Contest’s, my grandma was in the second beauty contest that they had and came second,” I replied thinking of the stories my Grandma would tell me
“ Yeah I remember The Dome when I was a kid, I use to go there with my Nana on Saturdays to watch Wrestling. I remember meeting Big Daddy, Bret Hart and his brother, I never could remember his name ,” Mike said
“Owen Hart,” I replied
“ Thanks, I was a massive fan of wrestling and Nana would take us every Saturday, we never missed, always at The Dome. We would get in free as Uncle Mick did the security for them. Nana was good friends with Big Daddy, he would come to our home and have a cup of tea with Nana. Nana brought all my uncles up on her own as Grandad died when My dad was 6 or 7 years old. He had a heart attack in the street while on duty as a fire man.
“So this was your dad’s Nana?
“Yes, and my great Nana,” Mike replied
Uncle Mick would always place us at the front as he liked having Nana close by, just in case. We would always get a Diet Coke and a bag of sweets while we watched.
“How old were you?
“ About 8/9 years old
I have never seen this side of Mike before, I mean, I’ve never heard about this wonderful and special woman in his life before. In fact, there are two subjects Mike would not talk about and that was his mother and his childhood, No wait make that three, his ex wife.
“Tell me more about Nana and Uncle Mike, “ I asked sounding excited
“Yeah, we had a lot of fun, we would get to see all of the good bands and events that went on there, didn’t matter how bad my life was with my Mum, I focus more on the good times with my Nana. I loved that place including fronterland and bubbles. But it is all gone now,” Mike said looking sad
“What you Mean
It took Mike a moment to answer, but then he said” My Mum was an alcoholic and when my Dad passed away, she hasn’t stopped drinking, that it was more important than I was,” Mike said
“ How old were you?
“ 3 maybe 4 years old, my Dad was on his way back from the pub with his mates and when he crossed the road, a drunk driver hit him and didn’t stop. A guy walking his dog saw it happen and called an ambulance. When they arrived my dad was dead at scene. They caught the guy only because the guy walking his dog remembered his licence plate number.
I remember the police knocking at the door and nothing else, from that day forward my Mum had a drink in her hand all the time. I became a distant memory. That is why I ended up living with my Nana, “ Mike said
“What happened to the guy that hit your dad,” I asked
“The guy’s name is Martin Peters, 36 years old and through he had hit a ball and didn’t want to stop as he was trying to get to The palatine to watch the Man U vs Liverpool game. It was the semi finals and he didn’t think it was important enough to stop. It’s one of the reasons I became a cop.,” Mike replied
Passing The Dome, I suddenly remembered all the times I worked there with some of my best friends by then, Claire and Laura. We use to have a blast dancing behind the bar, serving customers, having laugh with the door staff and meeting the bands. The Dome closed in 2011. Next to it was Bubbles, it had an indoor pool and a outdoor pool it opened 1989 and closed in 2001, no one really knows why through.
“Did you know that my Grandad’s name is on that War Memorial,” Mike Said.
“ No I didn’t
“Yeah, Great Great Grandad was in the War, The War Memorial was build to remember 216 men who lost their lives in World War I, 180 World War II and I in the Korean War. It was built by Thomas Hayton Mawson and completed in 1921. It was made of Bronze and Granite and has a Bronze lion sitting atop stepped base. It was given a Grade II listing by The British Listing Building,” Mike explained.
“ I didn’t know that
“Now you do,” Mike said with a cheeky laugh
My phone suddenly started ringing, bringing the laugher to a holt
Before I could Identify myself the voice on the other end said,” Detective, we have just had a call in about a deceased female at 4, Hestbank Lane, calling said it is really bad. Can you make your wa…
“To see if it is connected to our case,” I responded cutting the caller off
“Yes please, detective
“ On our way now,” I replied ending the call
“ Where we going,” Mike asked
“ 4, Hestbank Lane, deceased female, they want us to check if she could be linked to ours,” I replied.
Mike didn’t answer me, he just flicked the switch for the lights and off we went, nearly got fucking whip lash.
It took us less than two minutes to arrive at the address, pulling into the Lane I noticed how beautiful the house was, with window frames made of wood from the 1930’s am guessing, stainless pictured glass like you see in a church. The front door was made from mahoghay wood, that had been sanded down and repainted at one time. I mean it was still beautiful. It had a white painted French, there were red, yellow and white roses with daffodils and big yellow sun flowers all in a perfect row. I was starting to feel like I walked into a 1950’s film with how old and beautiful it was.
“ We’re here,” Mike said
I know it isn’t connected to mine, unless I did something while asleep. I mean is that even possible? Oh shut up Leila. But we may be able to link mine to them, depending on what we find.
“ This may be the link we have been waiting for? Said Mike
“ But it may not be either, let’s keep an open mind, we don’t want to be making any mistakes now do we,” I replied
“ You do remember that I have had cases worse than these right, and this is my area of expertise? Mike asked with a pissed off voice.
“ I don’t want anything to go against us when we do find the person responsible,” I replied
“Hi guys, what have we got,” asked Detective Terry
“Nothing yet, as we only just arrived ourselves, though you can smell the dead from here,” Mike said while placing his hand over his nose
“Yeah, I smell it, smells like a bad one,” Terry responded, grabbing three scarves from the boot of his car and passing them to us.
Grabbing the scarf, I passed covers to go over their shoes.
“Thanks,” Both Mike and Terry said.
Making out way to the door, even with the scarf around our mouth and noses, you could still smell pure death. Opening the door, we were hit with such a strong prudent smell, that I was nearly sick myself. I followed in between Mike and Terry. As we made our way thought the house down the dark hallway, we came to the first bedroom, where the victim was laying face up on the bed.
“Who called it in?” I asked
“Neighbour came round to check on the victim, as she hadn’t heard anything from her in a while. They would talk over the fence every Tuesday as that is when both women got paid, but the victim didn’t turn up this Tuesday,” Terry replied.
“Where is the neighbour now?” I asked
“ With two PC’s in her home,” Mike said.
Looking around the Victims room, she had a dark purple carpet, with black curtain with gold stars of all different sizes from the top to the bottom. The wallpaper was a dark purple with black streaks down the flower pattern. The victim’s bed from a pine bed dark wood. Looking to the right there was a pine set of five draws, with a mirror on the top. There was expensive makeup sat there, Elf, Mac and Loreal. Must be about £1000 just with them few items. Wish I could afford that type of makeup. Next to that unit was a smaller unit that was 2ft by 2ft and the lid was ajar and pointing to the side which left a hole to see into. Moving closer and looking into it there was a book that was open upside down. Picking it up, and turning it around, I was about to start reading when two pages fell to the floor. Bending down to pick the pages up, I noticed that the edges looked like they had been pulled from the book forcibly.
“Guys, I’ve found something,”
“What is it?” Mike asked, nearly falling into the room.
“Look at these pages and the messages on them,”
“TONIGHT, YOU DIE BITCH / TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT YOUR HOUSE GETS BURNT DOWN,” Mike read out loud.
“Someone definitely had an issue with the victim, as she had taken a brutal beating, she has been used as a punching bag,” I said to Mike and Terry.
“From what I can see, there isn’t any forced entry, so either the victim knew her attacker or he wormed his way in,” Mike replied
“The Victim is called Vicki Peters, neighbour just informed us and I just found her driving licence on the kitchen counter,” Mike said as he made his way back into the bedroom.
“Guy’s, you need to come here now,” Terry shouted.
Following Terry voice we made our way to the back bedroom, going down the hallway, past the bathroom. As we walked into the back bedroom, I noticed how the walls were a dark white, the carpet was a off red and there was a big silk red sheet draped over the window, stopping the light from coming in. To the left of me there was a camera sat on a stand facing the Victim. Then looking at the female Victim, her eyes were white, and she was naked and she in the same position as the first victim we found.
“ What the fuck,” I said out loud.
Just then Sally head of CSI arrived with two assistants and a new police officer that I had never met before.
“ Hi Guy’s what have you got for me,” Sally asked
“As you can see, a deceased female, not sure of her name, there is another deceased female in the front bedroom,” I explained.
“I thought it was only one victim,” Sally enquired.
“So, did we
“Guy’s, you need to come here now,” Shouted Matt the CSI Officer
Making our way towards the Matt’s voice, we made out way past the bathroom, through the kitchen, then outside to the garage in the back. Suddenly, we were hit with the most God-awful smell I had ever smelt before. That CSI Matt was throwing his guts up at the side of the garage.
“Are you okey Matt,” I asked
“No, you will see why when you go in there,” CSI Matt replied.
Making our way towards the garage door, we noticed it was a heavy-duty metal door and the lock was on the outside only.
“What the fuck,” Mike said out loud
As our eyes adjusted, I looked to the right and all I saw was dark dirty walls with LED lights that flicked on and off every couple of seconds, looking the other way to the right, there was a table that had an axe on it and on that axe was blood, that was still wet. Then to the left of the table was three deceased bodies, two males and one female, who had clearly been chucked to side like rubbish.
“Come on PC Walsh be bloody careful will you,” I head Sally shout.
“ER You better come here, “We heard Terry shout from upstairs.
“Sally you’re with me,” I said
Sally followed close behind as I raced up the stairs towards Terry’s voice. As we reached the bedroom door, yet again we were hit by that same god-awful smell from downstairs that reminds you that death is in the air.
“What is wrong with some people, you’ve got to be some sick cunt to do this to another human being,” Terry said looking scared.
Looking around the room, tied to chairs were two victims, one male, one female, that had clearly been beaten and tortured like the other victims and again there was a camera sat on a stand facing the victims.
“Jesus, it never gets easy seeing this type of shit,” Sally said from behind me.
“None of these make sense,” Mike said walking into the room.
“What you mean,” I asked
“Well look at how these victims have been placed and how our other Victims were placed, it doesn’t match up, does this scene not remind you off the unknown killer murders, Terry,” Mike Said
“ Wait, shit, I was thinking that from the first killing that this may be another serial killer case, as the unknown killer murders, but I didn’t want to believe it, as we have been chasing that bastard for the last 20 years. I dread to think if these are related,” Terry explained looking worried.
